1 lb Frozen Brussels Sprouts
3 tb Slivered almonds
1/4 c Butter
2 tb Fresh lemon juice
Salt and pepper
--------------------OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS-------------------------
1 ts Lemon juice
1/2 ts Grated lemon zest
1 pn Allspice
Put the frozen sprouts in a casserole dish with 1/4 cup water.
Cover and microwave on HIGH for 10 minutes.
Spread the slivered almonds out on a plate and microwave for 3 to 4
minutes on HIGH, turning once or twice during cooking, until golden
brown.
Put the butter in a bowl and melt in the microwave oven for 1-1/2
minutes on HIGH. Add the lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper.
Stir well.
Drain the sprouts. Put into a vegetable dish and pour the lemon
butter over; stir well.
Sprinkle with the slivered almonds and serve hot.
Options: Add a teaspoon of lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon
zest (peel), a pinch of allspice and generous seasoning to the
cooking water. This produces a lemon flavored sauce. Orange can be
substituted.
