2 lb Ground beef, lean *
1 lb Canned tomatoes
6 fl Tomato juice
7 c Water
1/2 lb Fresh green beanns
1 Green pepper, diced
1 c Diced celery
1/2 c Celery greens
Salt pepper
2 ts Garlic powder
2 tb Soy sauce **
1 Bay leaf
1/2 ts Paprika
1/2 ts Thyme
1/2 c Pearled barley
2 Carrots, sliced
1 Baking potato, diced
* Or use ground turkey ** Low salt soy sauce

~-- Brown meat in skillet. Drain fat and put meat in large pot or
dutch oven. Add all ingredients except carrots and potatoes. Bring to
a boil. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Add carrots. Wait 10
minutes. Add potatoes. Simmer 20 more minutes.
