Cooking Preparation of the Recipe:

1/2 c Sugar 1/2 ts Baking powder
1/2 c Shortening 1 ts Vanilla extract
1/2 c Maple syrup 1 c Rolled oats
1 ea Egg 1 c Chopped walnuts
2/3 c All-purpose flour

In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening. Add syrup and egg and
beat well. Combine flour and baking powder; add to creamed mixture.
Add vanilla and mix well. Stir in oats and walnuts. Pour into a
greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350 deg for 35 minutes. Cut
into squares while warm. Cool on a wire rack. Yield: about 2 dozen.
