Cooking Preparation of the Recipe:

3/4 c Sugar 17 oz Sour cherries; drained and
1 Egg -reserve juice
2 tb Shortening 2 tb Butter, divided
1 c Flour 1 1/2 c Brown sugar
1 ts Baking soda 1/3 c Sugar
1/2 ts Salt 2 tb Flour
1/2 ts Vanilla

Mix 3/4 cup of sugar, the egg, shortening, 1 cup of flour, soda, salt,
vanilla and cherries well. Pour the batter into a 9" square pan.
Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.. Combine the brown sugar, 1 T of butter
and 2 T of cherry juice in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil.
Pour the sauce over the hot cake. Combine 1/3 cup of sugar, 2 T of
flour, 1 T of butter and 1 cup of cherry juice in a saucepan. Boil
until clear. Serve warm over pudding. Source: Beverly Hillbillies
