Cooking Preparation of the Recipe:
1 c Rich sour milk 1/2 ts Salt
1/2 ts Baking soda 1/2 ts Nutmeg
1 Egg, well beaten 1 tb Melted shortening
1 c Sugar
Sift flour, measure, and sift 1 cup with baking soda, salt, and
nutmeg. Combine egg, sugar, shortening, sour milk, and dry
ingredients. Add sufficient flour to make a soft roll dough. Chill
dough. Turn onto lightly floured board. Roll in sheet 1/3 inch
thick. Cut with floured cutter. Fry in deep fat (365 F) until brown.
Drain on crumpled absorbent paper. Sprinkle with sugar. Florence Taft
